What we do

The goal of the Greater Washington Region Safe Routes to School Network is to build partnerships and leverage resources in the region to improve policies and the built environment to support increases in physical activity through walking and bicycling to school and in daily life. If you agree with our work to increase walking and bicycling, your organization can endorse the Greater Washington Platform. Organizations will be listed on our website.

We do this work to make all our children and communities healthier and safer-for those that choose to walk and bicycle and those that do not have other options. Low-income communities and communities of color have higher rates of obesity and chronic diseases and more likely to experience  high traffic injuries.

The platform is our action for safe and healthy communities. Individual communities take take action too, learn more about the Greater Washington network by reading the platform and then contact us to discuss how we can work together.

For more specific examples of our work, please see our mid-year report that details how we have already worked with communities in our region.
