Walk to School Day 2012

Wow what a day! Over 100 Greater Washington schools were registered to participate in International Walk to School Day.  I can’t wait until the numbers start rolling in. We should have more numbers of students who walked or biked by the end of this week or next week. There is a growing number of pictures on our Facebook page check out right now!

USDOT Deputy Secretary John Porcari awarding Lucy Neher, Takoma Park Safe Routes to School coordinator the national award.

I was at Takoma Park Elementary School and over 500 students walked to Takoma Elementary  School together today and all five Takoma Park Elementary schools participated. If you have not yet hear, Takoma Park received a national award today! Washington DC’s Burville Elementary had a bike rodeo before they walked to school. And the Bike/Walk Challenge Vienna schools were out in full force! I especially love that their pictures show the kids out in damp and foggy weather. TrailsforYouth.org worked with 5,000 students in Springfield and Alexandra, VA to walk to school!
